Another One Bites the Dust

by Andrew

Hope every is having a great year so far, I know I am (can you feel the sarcasm yet?). Sunday night, my Toshiba M200 starts making this noise. I ignore it at first, but after a few minutes it becomes to annoying to ignore. So I tilt my laptop up to my hear to try and find where it’s coming from. I finally determine that my hard drive is just about to be SOL.

Before I can shut down, a rather retched noise is heard and then the computer goes "beep beep". Windows freezes and I crap my pants. I turn the computer off and on again, just to be sure. The familiar whirl of the hard drive on startup is not present. My hard drive has crashed. Hard.

I’m pretty sure it’s a head crash. Little can be done, save professional data recovery that will cost a minimum $1000. I’m fortunate that all my important documents are either backed up or online.

And so I begin my dealings with Toshiba Customer Relations, the almost local computer repair shop, and the lack of tablet of my own…all just days before school starts next Wednesday.

I’ll post periodic updates on StudentTabletPC. The gorey posts can be found on my website.

Sorry to hear that. At least you have your stuff backed up. To give you some hope, a classmate of mine is getting new parts for her laptop after 90 minutes on the phone with dell today! Hopefully you won’t have the same issues as Tracy did with Toshiba.

I too have given up my M200 to warranty service just before classes resume. Lets hope for a speedy response for both of us!
